Stripes by Paul Smith 03.06

Background
Building on Bespoke Stripe – the 2003 textile collaboration with British fashion designer Paul Smith, Maharam introduces a new series in collaboration with Paul Smith...a vibrant family of his signature stripes.

Product Overview
Composed as a series of textiles, Stripes by Paul Smith are a study in variegation. Staccato repetitions, tonal modulations and punctuated sequences demonstrate Smith’s playful use of color and proportion. Engineered to appear arbitrary, each variation in frequency, color, saturation, and density yields an entirely unique sensibility.

Constructed in a dense wool warp-satin weave, Stripes by Paul Smith were designed in an upholstery weight, and meet all contract performance requirements.

Biography
Unlike any other fashion designer at work today, Paul Smith has managed to combine a flair for eccentric detail with a dedication to the highest standards of craftsmanship that has made him one of the most successful fashion designers in British history.

Smith fell into fashion design when, as an out-of-work teenager, his father forced him to become a runner in a local clothing warehouse. In 1976, just six years after opening his first shop, he showed his first collection on the Paris runways under the Paul Smith label. Today, his fashion empire includes eight shops in London, as well as locations in New York, Paris, Milan and Asia—including over 200 stores in Japan.
