To mark the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between industrial designer Bertjan Pot and Maharam, photographer Nick Ballón visited Pot’s Rotterdam studio to learn more about his approach. Located in a former gymnasium bordered on two sides by a canal and surrounded by trees, the space brims with lights, woven masks, textiles, and furniture that typify his material experimentation. Pot also invited Ballón to the beach to fly kites, a favorite pastime that speaks to his interest in functional design objects that incorporate simple materials and techniques.
