About Thomas Bayrle

Thomas Bayrle (b. 1937, Germany) is a Frankfurt-based artist and key figure in the European Pop Art movement. His varied practice encompasses painting, sculpture, video, fashion and graphic design. Bayrle's apprenticeship as a Jacquard weaver, during his twenties, influenced his later work which often incorporates a single unit repeated to form an expansive mass. Aestheticizing the serial nature of consumerism, Bayrle's micro and macro patterns depict a world torn between positive collectivism and deadening uniformity.
