Maharam is committed to supporting art and design education through fellowships, in-kind contributions, and professional development.
Since 2012 Maharam has partnered with Rhode Island School of Design to promote STEAM, a national, congressional initiative to integrate art and design education into STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). The Maharam STEAM Fellowship in Applied Art and Design enables RISD students to pursue internships with a government agency or nonprofit organization.
Maharam provides samples to individuals as well as educational and cultural institutions like the Textile Resource Center at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Students who register with Maharam can order select product samples marked S free of charge.
Herman Miller and Maharam jointly developed healthcaretextiles.com, an educational resource offering clear, fact-based information on textiles for healthcare environments with whitepapers, an extensive glossary, and a robust search engine.
