Katherine Bernhardt (b. 1975, United States) is a Brooklyn-based artist known for her bright, fluid paintings depicting expressive arrangements of objects reduced to lively, elemental forms. Referencing the saturated colors and unexpected motif pairings found in West African Dutch wax-printed textiles, her large-scale Pattern Paintings associate a variety of objects including tropical flora and fauna, consumer symbols, fruit, and everyday objects in large-scale, reverberating pattern. Bernhardt received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and MFA from the School of Visual Arts (New York).
