Beatriz González (b. 1938, Colombia) is a Bogotá-based artist who is considered one of the most influential living artists in Colombia as well as a leading figure of Latin American Pop art. Influenced by her upbringing during a period of social and political upheaval known as La Violencia, González's work explores socio-political subject matter specific to Colombia's history and vernacular culture. By culling media images from Colombia's current events, González inserts a dialogue between popular narratives and formal painting.
