July 2021

July marks an introduction to Maharam Digital Projects by New York artist Tabboo! alongside three Maharam Wools: a heathered solid, a robust epingle, and an understated check.

Rhapsody in Blue by Tabboo!

Tabboo! (b. 1959, United States) is a New York-based artist and a key figure in the East Village underground scene of the 1980s. His varied practice encompasses painting, illustration, and performance—including singing, puppetry, and drag. Tabboo!’s first addition to Maharam Digital Projects, Rhapsody in Blue, is a moody cityscape that evokes his nostalgia for past experiences in New York.

Petra

Woven in Northern Italy using a unique blend of wool and linen, Petra has a cool, dry, and exceedingly soft hand. Optimizing Petra’s affinity for subtle color, the Maharam Design Studio distinguished the piece-dyed palette with earthy shades of chartreuse, blush, and oak.

Roman

Roman’s epingle construction is distinguished by densely looped blooms of thick wool. Woven in Belgium, this plush, gridded structure highlights the depth of Roman’s heathered yarns—which are derived from recycled garments sourced throughout Europe.

Jasper

Comprising multiple contrasting fibers, Jasper’s ribbed surface is punctuated by luminous bands of vivid color. Jasper’s wool is sourced from sheep raised in the United States that is dyed, spun, and woven in the state of Pennsylvania—thereby minimizing the environmental impact of standard textile transportation. A classic, toothy hand is underscored by accents of emerald, aqua, and marigold.
